Dr. F. Ames Smith

Dr. F. Ames Smith Jr, is a board certified general and breast cancer surgeon in practice since 1990 who established the Hereditary Cancer Risk Clinic in Idaho in January of 2023. The goal of the clinic is to identify and manage both men and women who have a genetic predisposition for cancer (about 5-10% of cancers have a hereditary/genetic basis). He also leads the Breast Clinic which screens women and men for increased breast cancer risk and evaluates worrisome breast symptoms. He partners with other women's health providers to encourage optimal menopausal, hormonal, and healthy lifestyle management for his patients. Having done surgery for more than thirty years, Dr. Smith now brings his surgical experience and knowledge into his dedicated office-based practice. He highly values the physician-patient relationship and is able to see patients in office (Boise, Sandpoint, Rathdrum, and Spokane) or via telehealth. He welcomes new patients.

About Dr. Smith

Dr. Smith has dedicated his practice exclusively to managing patients (both men and women) with high risk for cancer, especially those with a hereditary (inherited genetic) predisposition to cancer. His general and breast surgical knowledge and experience has made him uniquely positioned to lead this service line, which has been a focus of his practice for the last 19 years. He works collaboratively with other local and regional providers. He shares an office with Lake City PT who specialize in women's health (including oncology, pelvic floor issues, and lymphedema). He is available for office visits as well as telehealth (licensed in Texas, Washington, and Idaho).
